Back from Worlds 2025!

Hey guys! I just got back to Kuala Lumpur from Worlds, then flew off to Singapore again to drop off inventory, and now I’m back in Kuala Lumpur once again! Very sleep-deprived, but that’s alright! I just wanted to jot down some quick thoughts before I head to bed – so do bear with me not elaborating much haha!

It was the first time I traveled ~19 hours (including 2 layovers), with one flight being almost 13 hours.

Kuala Lumpur → Singapore → Munich → Prague

I have never flown that long before, and don’t think I would do it again anytime soon. I’d recommend anyone to break it up with maybe a 6-hour flight, then spend a day or two before continuing to the next destination. Rawdogging the entire trip at once was quite challenging – especially with crying babies on EVERY FLIGHT.

It was my first time in Prague. I would highly recommend anyone to visit. Beautiful city, great hospitality, OK food, but excellent beer.

Updated Contest Tierlist!

I made a tier list a few months back, and here’s the updated version with the inclusion of EP7, SYYC2025 & WYYC2025:

WYYC2025 was my first Worlds, and the best contest I’ve ever attended. Best-organized contest, period. Everything was perfect for attendees – schedules, booths, stage, vibe, pretty much almost everything. As a smoker, I really appreciated that the app showed which freestyles were currently on stage and who was coming up next.

I did feel the judging was VERY questionable at times, but I guess that’s the case with every Worlds. I also heard there were some issues with the livestream – too bad if you couldn’t make it!

Still, the best contest I’ve attended. Well done to the organizing team!

Shopping guide post-Worlds!

At Worlds, we launched the CAPPED INERTIA and previewed the LACRIMA. We didn’t actually sell many yo-yos at the booth, but A LOT of people reached out after the event wanting to purchase the CAP and LACRIMA for friends back home. Thank you for lightening my luggage! I’ll probably write a separate blog on the new yo-yos, but for now, they’re available on our webstore and selling pretty well!

Btw if you're wondering why our website cursor is so shit, I just haven't figured out how to fix it lah.

I also had the chance to try EVERY new release at WYYC2025. In no particular order, here are my favorites (excluding prototypes):

  • Disyoyos – Obscura
  • 44emporium – Titanium Feather
  • Aufheben – Bufo
  • Oblivion – UNPRLD
  • Duncan – Nirand
  • W1LD – Adrenaline SS (D Bearing)
  • empathy – Bubble

I’m not great at explaining why I enjoy a specific yo-yo, but I don’t think you’d be disappointed with any of these. If I had to pick one – Bufo by Aufheben was my favorite, though I might be biased toward heavier yo-yos.

Which yo-yo did I hate the most? Ask me in person! No digital footprint for me 😊

Worlds 1A Finals

One thing I learned at Worlds is that watching freestyles live is very different from watching them back on YouTube. The two biggest differences for me are the atmosphere you feel, and that mistakes are much less noticeable live. My favorite 1A freestyles to watch live were Jakub, Connor, Ryuichi, and Xavier – just something about the way they perform and present their tricks.

It was a shame Allon didn’t go clean on stage, as he landed a near-perfect run in the OFFSET room right before he went up. Jonathan too but owells!

Semis thoughts

Other than Karthik, the 3 freestyles I would have loved to see in Finals were Junyi Lin, Junsang Park, and Jun Sang Lee – and probably Ayumu Kasuga.

On a separate note, I was quite surprised some players didn’t make it through semis and prelims, but I’ll hold my breath until the videos are out! Again, watching live is very different from playback, and it usually makes more sense when the videos come out.

Favorite moment from Worlds?

Finally meeting Yejune from 44emporium, Mark from Spinkult, and Masa from THROWBACK!

Least favorite moment from Worlds?

Kids screaming and running around everywhere at Panorama Hotel. How many times must you tell a child to stop bumping into people? Where are their parents? Maybe I'm just becoming a grumpy old man.

Anyways, that’s a quick wrap! I probably should have waited and spent more time writing this – but maybe another day another blog as I have not covered anything non 1A. Also a big shoutout to Spinkult for hosting us at the booth, and Jakub Dolejš for bringing us around Prague!

See you next year in Himeji! Good night!
